Biography

An experienced engineer, entrepreneur, and business owner with a wealth of experience in the field of mechanical and aeronautical engineering, Carl Byington has served as President and Chief Executive Officer of PHM Design, LLC in Ellijay, GA since 2017. Carl Byington formerly lived and worked in greater Rochester, New York, where he served six years as the CBM+ technical lead at Sikorsky Aircraft, a subsidiary company of Lockheed Martin. Prior to its successful acquisition, he was also an owner and Director of Systems Engineering of Impact Technologies, LLC. In earlier work, he led technology development efforts in undersea vehicles at Penn State University in State College, PA and hypersonic propulsion at NASA Langley Research Center in Hampton, VA. Throughout his career, Carl Byington has authored more than 130 published articles and coauthored approximately 10 US patents. Mr. Byington balances both the business and technical sides of his career with frequent travel adventure pursuits that range from long-distance hiking and kayaking to mountaineering and SCUBA diving. He has successfully completed marathons on all seven continents including Antarctica. He was featured on the Today Show and numerous other media for the story of his rock climbing injury and subsequent recovery to run marathons on all seven continents.
