Born and raised in the suburbs of Miami, Florida, Mackenzie Kram's interest in film and television arose out of his own interests and family background. The genesis of Mackenzie's career, however, began at the age of 15, when he was accepted into Miami Palmetto Senior High School's T.V. Production program.
It wasn't until 2016, however, when Mackenzie worked as co-producer and second assistant director on Daniela Tomas' "Quimera" that his career took off. As a result, Mackenzie embarked on a journey of writing screenplays and working on films to create his own opportunities. In 2017, he joined For Reel? Pictures, where he wrote, produced, and starred in his first short film "Phony Pop-Up," and served as production assistant on Jack Kierski's "Behind The Curtain." He also wrote the screenplay for "Over Infatuating," which was in pre production at the time of his departure from For Reel? Pictures.
Independently, Mackenzie participated in Florida International University's Film Festival Community Forum, where he collaborated with fellow FIU film students and participated in various film-related workshops. It was through the forum where Mackenzie landed the role of Charlie Reed in Jorge Coll's "A Mime of a Time," and participated in the 2019 Florida International University Screenwriting Competition.
In February 2019, Mackenzie quit For Reel? Pictures and underwent a metamorphosis, one that motivated him to expand his creative freedom and produce independent content. He launched his metamorphosis with the production of "Birthday Firing" and "Fear From Behind," the latter in collaboration with Jorge Coll. After completing "Fear From Behind," Mackenzie graduated from Florida International University and moved to Palm Springs, California to further his craft and volunteer at the 2019 Palm Springs International Festival of Short Films. Not to be outdone by filmmaking, Mackenzie released "Blind Lock," "Ring Ring, Robo Ring," and "Flying Into The Sunset" within a five week period.
In Fall 2019, Mackenzie released "Time To See Sense" and "Up The Yard" within five weeks of each other, motivating him to center his films around character psychology. Following up on "Up The Yard," Mackenzie wrote a sample script titled "The Spirit of Bruce Lucker," a story about a man's perceptions and relationship being tested when he encounters spiritual and living reminders of a long, lost friend. The script would ultimately get him accepted into UCR Palm Desert's MFA in Creative Writing in February 2020.
Ringing in 2020, Mackenzie explored the world of writer's block through "Time To Unblock" by having a prospective screenwriter turn to past journals in order to overcome writer's block. That success motivated him to further explore character psychology through "Seeing The Glass," "Locked, Lonely, and Longing," and "Out of The Sand."
In addition to making his own films, Mackenzie volunteers for Southwest Church in Indian Wells, California.
