Biography

David A Saenz (Pronounced: "Signs"); was born in Austin, Texas to Roel Jose Saenz and Sylvia Ann Teran, both highly educated teachers. David is of Spanish, Italian, Basque, Greek, Portuguese, English, and German descent, and also has Sardinian (Italian), Maltese, Norwegian, Finnish, Scottish, Irish, and Apache ancestry. David A Saenz is an artist, photographer, writer, poet, director, screenwriter, playwright, actor, comedian, cinematographer, film editor, journalist, and photojournalist. He began his art making career as a photographer, his first camera having been given to him at age 6. While a sophomore in high school he re-discovered the medium, taking the photo Leslie In 2000 while also later having his first museum show at age 18, where he exhibited the photograph Hope. As a young teen David fell in love with rave music and after spending one thousand dollars on a vinyl collection he considered becoming a DJ. He decided against buying turntables however, and instead directed his focus back to art making. As a student studying fashion photography at Austin Community College, he was given the role of director of photography for a short documentary film entitled 2 ½ Hours That Changed Bastrop, about an inferno that engulfed the town of Bastrop, Texas during a severe Texas drought. Working on this short film was the spark that began his career in filmmaking. He studied Journalism, Photojournalism, and Radio, TV, Film as a double major in the Moody College of Communication at the University of Texas at Austin. He has since directed a number of narrative and documentary short films, as well as a full-length documentary.
