Ava Bounds, WINNER of the IMDb New Filmmaker Award 2021, was born on 10th December 2005 in Yorkshire, UK in the middle of the wild and historic Bronte country. A multi-talented director, screenwriter, professional actor, musician and artist, Ava began her performance career in London's West End at aged 12, working with Sam Mendes in the Olivier Winning drama 'The Ferryman' playing the role of Nunu Carney for six months.
During the Covid pandemic lockdown, Ava began working on her multi-award winning period-sci-fi short, PLAYERS, a story of a young girl in a French village with powers to restore life to the dead. This film went on to WIN the Youth Award at the BAFTA qualifying Bolton Film Festival, among many others.
Working with some of the North of England's most talented filmmakers, Ava then wrote, directed and edited her second film, BETH, the story of a Yorkshire Asylum runaway whose return home took a surprising, heartbreaking turn. Set to the epic music of Puccini's Opera 'Tosca' and filmed in windswept Yorkshire, this dramatic film has won a host of Awards globally, including at Academy Award qualifying festivals.
Ava made history in 2021 by not only being declared the WINNER of the IMDb New Filmmaker Award 2021 for BETH, but at the age 15, Ava was the youngest in its history.
Ava's third film, HELLO FRISCO a rollicking, anarchic road movie where a group of teenage girls launch out on a journey to save the life of an abandoned baby has been likened by critics to be 'The Marx Brothers in Edwardian England'. This again has been recognized worldwide, winning numerous Festival Awards for best student film with American, Korean, Russian and Australian viewers particularly enjoying it.
2022 will see the launch of her next directorial effort, 'DYING TO MEET YOU', a short, psychological thriller docudrama that shines a fresh, surreal spotlight on the illness of alcoholism.
Ava is excited to continue her film career and training at the London Screen Academy in Islington beginning in September 2022.
