Derek Spaldo is a Chicago-based actor, playwright/director, and musician. He is an MFA Acting Candidate at The Theatre School at DePaul University, graduating in 2020.
Born in Rutherford, NJ, Derek lived in New York City, and worked in the downtown theatre scene with various artists such as Paul Lazar, Christina Masciotti, Richard Maxwell/New York City Players, and Zishan Ugurlu, at spaces such as Abrons Arts Center, The Bushwick Starr, The Chocolate Factory, Dixon Place, and La MaMa.
His plays Playground, Pitch, Scene from a Room, and The Killers of Comedy have run to great acclaim at spaces in New York such as The Brick, Dixon Place, and La MaMa. He aims to continue to develop new work as an actor and playwright in Chicago.
He is also a multi-instrumentalist and singer; he plays with the critically acclaimed Brooklyn-based band, Garcia Peoples.
