Biography

K. Balakrishnan Unnithan known as Prof. K. B. Unnithan was Born as the eldest of three children to Bhagirathi Kunjamma and Kochu Kunju Unnithan at Thundivilail house in Adoor, Pathanamthitta District, Kerala, India. He completed his primary education at NSS High School, Pathanamthitta. He did his B.Ed. and M.Ed. from the Govt. Training College in Thiruvananthapuram with a scholarship. His career began as the Principal of Padam High School, Pathanamthitta. In 1972, he joined S.N.M Training College, Moothakunnam as a teacher. Between 1994 and 1997 he was the Head of Calicut University Teacher Education Centre, Ollur, Thrissur. Unnithan, entered the public domain through student politics of the Indian National Congress (INC). When INC split, he joined Congress (S) and then NCP. He served as Thrissur district secretary of Congress (S) for a long time and later as the Vice-President and the President of NCP. He was then elected to the State Council and National Committee. He was the founding chairman of the NCP's Art and Cultural Committee, National Art Culture . Unnithan lived most of his life in Thrissur, a cultural city of Kerala and was an active participant in many social, literary and educational activities . He was the Treasurer of Thrissur Public Library, Executive Committee Member of Thrissur Urban Development Authority , Executive Committee Member of Thrissur Sports Council and worked in several areas. He was also interested in film industry and cooperated with digital film makers forum, a trust for films based on Thrissur. He was the chief patron of the trust and was the chairman of Short Film Festival 2013, conducted by the trust. A collection of poems named "Kaathilola", written by Prof. K. B. Unnithan was published on 2014 September 28. The book was released by Aattoor Ravivarma, a famous poet in Kerala, India. And, the first copy was received by Vaisakhan, a famous novelist in Kerala. This book was published by Chaanakyam Publications.
