Pedro Bitar

Biography

Brazilian Writer/Director Pedro Bitar has made it his mission to use film as a way of igniting positive social change, particularly regarding marginalized communities. Drawing from his upbringing, Bitar's films The Call, Night Out, and LIKED foreground prominent themes in the LGBTQ+ community, such as internalized homophobia, the sensitivity of coming out, and heteronormativity as the ultimate peer pressure. Though most of his works focus on the LGBTQ+ community, Bitar is currently working on projects that address xenophobia and Brazil's volatile political climate, both of which are personal struggles of his. Night Out was a semi-finalist at the LA Cinefest and won Best Cinematography at the Trinity Film Festival. The Call employs the "Choose-Your-Own-Adventure" format to illustrate the sensitivity of coming out.
