Biography

Born 5 May 1988 in Waterloo, IA, L.C. Kent attended the public Edison Elementary School where she was enrolled in the Expanded Learning Program. With the encouragement of her teacher, Pam Verly, she began to write and perform in plays, including a mock trial entitled 'The People vs. Alex T. Wolf', for which she did her first writing collaboration and in which she played the Wolf, the Wolf's Mother, the surviving Pig, and the Pigs' Mother. When she got to Central Middle School, the ELP Teacher Audrey Kimball encouraged L.C. to record a monologue of her telling the story of 'The Vampire Lestat' - when a digital bell went off in the middle of the recording, L.C. said, without skipping a beat, "These modern technologies hurt my ears." From that moment, she knew she belonged on the stage. Her first public television appearance was the middle school's 2002 Black History Month production of 'Motown at the Apollo', where she sang Teena Marie's "Wishing On A Star" under the direction of her social studies teacher - she was the only student who actually sang instead of doing a lip sync. After getting involved in the East High School Drama Department, run by Corey Losenicky, she was encouraged to audition for the 2003 Summer Musical 'The Music Man' at the Waterloo Community Playhouse by her Choir Director, Ann Zellhoefer, who was also the Music Director for the show. This eventually led to a Full Ride to the University of Northern Iowa to double major in theatre and psychology, which led to writing many skits, as well as several plays of various lengths. 'Without You' was first performed in the Spring of 2014 at the UNISTA 10 Minute Play Festival. L.C. saw an entire show she collaborated on to create come to life for the first time since 1994 and knew what she wanted to do with the rest of her life. In 2016, L.C. met Tanner Bollinger through the WCP's production of 'Cabaret'. Tanner later encouraged L.C. to meet Don Tjernagel, Director and Executive Producer of the 'Bros.' movies. After the first two movies were made, L.C. had a falling out with the Donzilla Inc. production company, and is excited to begin working with Pixel Labs on an upcoming project revival. Most recently, L.C. starred in the Righteous Wizard Productions short film 'Typecast'. She will be returning to UNI in the Fall and, with mentoring by Anelia K. Dimitrova, Ph.D., through the Digital Media Department, taking Independent Study to bring her first movie musical, 'Tethered Elephant', to life!
