Earl "The Pearl" de Vries was a colorful character who brightened and enlightened Provincetown for decades, primarily in the 1970's through the early 2000's. He was the founder of "The Missing Link" joke shop, and the original "Don Wand", selling magic wands that he made with his partner,Erika Rebiewski.
Earl loved music, and was a talented drummer, and was an integral member of the band "Too Loose La Trek". "Too Loose La Trek" became a staple house band at the Governor Bradford Bar in the early through mid-1990's. Some of their 1994 performances were documented by Jonathan Morrill, who was a close friend of Earl's, and the band. These unedited videotapes were boot-legged and surfaced on the local Cape Cod Continental Cabelvision, being broadcast late at night, and sometimes as filler, in the late 1990's.
Earl starred as the Joke Shop Owner, shot at his "Missing Link" Joke Shop, in "The Brides of Johnny in Monsterland" He was a passionate man who gave full commitment to the things he loved, which included Tobago, cats (his favorite named "Lucky"), sports and gambling, Canadian beer, quality herb, gardening, music and film theory, and good jokes.
