Biography

Dave Sweet was born on June 14, 1973 in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. From an early age, Dave seemed drawn towards a career in law enforcement - always hopeful to follow in the footsteps of a Grandfather he never knew (a former NYPD police officer between 1904-1914). Dave joined the rank and file of a large Western Canadian Police Service in November 1998. Now a 24 year veteran of the Calgary Police Service, Detective Dave Sweet has accumulated over 20 years of specialized investigative experience in the areas of drugs, guns, gangs, organized crime, missing persons and homicide. Dave possesses and in-depth and comprehensive understanding of risk management models, managing and leading major cases, current law enforcement standards and practices and the Canadian criminal justice system. Apart from his investigative experiences, Dave has also developed a passion for the arts. For the past decade, he has supported a local mystery theatre company with an audience talk back segment known as "Forensic Fridays" and has consulted on numerous writing projects with local authors. Dave's first book (a true crime memoir) "Skeletons in My Closet - Life Lessons from a Homicide Detective" was published by Mischievous Books in 2018 and highlights the life lessons a career in law enforcement can afford. Dave's second book "Undaunted" is in the works and expected to be released in the spring of 2023. Over the years, several of Dave's cases, have been featured in documentaries and podcast series that he has worked on including: CBC's The Detectives, Corus Entertainment's Crime Beat, Delta Police Services Bend Don't Break, and Investigative Discoveries Murder Board [Murder Wall]. Recipient of the Distinguished Service Award in 2010 and 2018, the Chief's Award for Investigative Excellence in 2017, and the Governor Generals Exemplarily Service Medal in 2021, Dave is a proud and accomplished investigator who has been involved in some of Canada's most heinous cases. A strong self-starter, coach, mentor, and community leader Dave lives by the mantra "love people" and believes that his passion to serve others, his inner strength and his mindfulness is rooted from that perspective.
