Alexander Newman is a British director and screenwriter. He was born in London, United Kingdom. His mother, Susan Elizabeth, is a physiotherapist, and his father, George Frank Newman, worked in photographic equipment and later as a stockbroker in the city of London.
Newman was educated at Hampton School, Middlesex where he began writing plays and poetry. He then attended Imperial College London where he completed a master's degree in Physics. Whilst at university he also studied creative writing under Irish poet Maurice Riordan.
