Biography

Juan Carlos Ruiz López was born in 1979, natural of Aguada, Puerto Rico. Son of photographer and mechanic Juan Ruiz and hair stylist Zenaida López. By age 11, his father had added video as one of his services as a wedding photographer. Allowed to edit an alternate version of a wedding video, the clients picked among the two edits. From this point on he not only edited the videos, but began to shoot the videos up until the end of my father's photographic career. His passion arose from telling a story as if it was a movie. As with any market, most activities are defined by supply and demand. During his high school years, he excelled as a musician and tenor singer. His good grades suggested opportunities towards science and technology fields while creative challenges were the ones that sparked his interests. In 1996 he participated in a NASA internship through the QEM network. The adventure of life got him to become a corporate project manager with international responsibilities. The end of that career at the dawn of the recession gave him the opportunity to ask himself where to go from there. As technology made sound engineering and film making more accessible, research on the film market brought me to work with film students in Florida. Following their advice, he started procuring equipment which allowed him to continue to work on film projects. Focused on film production he pursued and obtained a graduate business degree to supplement already obtained experience and knowledge. To showcase the quality of film that could be achieved, by the end of August 2016, he managed to organize a voluntary professional cast and crew of 38 people to participate on the 48hour Film Project. The short film won 7 awards so far as well as it has been accepted in to more film festivals so far through the next year.
