Biography

Russell is an award-winning screenwriter and filmmaker. Most recently, he finished staff writing/associate producing on two seasons of The Inspectors on CBS - nominated in 2017 for 6 Daytime Emmys, including one for Best Writing. Then, with Academy Award-nominee Marianne Jean-Baptiste executive producing, Russell directed the second episode of his short-format show, Parole as a showcase - the piece was Official Selection at top festivals including HollyShorts, LA Shorts, Nashville, Cleveland and the SAG-AFTRA Foundation. It went on to garner the Performance Award at the USA Film Festival. He is locked to direct a short in Ireland in mid-2019, with Larry Mullen Jr. producing and scoring. His drama pilot, 'Drought', won the West Field Screenwriting Finalist Award and reached the semi-finals of the Creative World Awards. Another of Simpson's features was nominated for two Spotlight Awards in the Fresh Voices Screenwriting Competition ('Best Dialogue' and 'Best Screen Chemistry').
