Biography

Canadian actor Timothy J. Anderson, a native of Montreal, has worked mostly in live theatre, including operas and musicals. He got his start in the chorus of the National Arts Centre summer opera festival. One of those operas, Eugene Onegin, was broadcast on CBC television. He began his theatre training at the University of Ottawa (where he completed a BMus in voice), augmented by dance training at Le Groupe de la Place Royale, then spent two years in the specialized training program of the Music Theatre Studio Ensemble at the Banff Centre for the Arts. While at the Centre, he appeared in productions of Les Mamelles de Tiresias, The Government Inspector, The Harlot and the Monk, The Music Theatre Machine, Bible Bill and the Funny Money Gang, and The Doing Knot. Timothy explored his music composition skills in classes with Canadian composer Louis Applebaum, and he wrote the text for the chamber opera Garden Variations and for the one-act play Caruso Got There First - both of which won awards from Alberta Culture. He moved to Edmonton, Alberta, in 1986. He initially toured in opera productions and became a regular performer at the Edmonton International Fringe Theatre Festival. He continues to write and compose for the stage, having served as writer-in-residence with the Canadian Opera Company. His television credits include the BookTelevision 3-Day Novel Contest reality series (broadcast 2007 - winner), the literary game show Total Write-Off (winner), Ray Bradbury Theatre "Chicago Abyss", the documentary on the making of the Canadian production of Andrew Lloyd-Webber's Phantom of the Opera, the pilot of Peep Show (Clinton Carew) and commercials and documentaries.
