Talal Al-Muhanna develops documentary and fiction films with a focus on filmmakers from Asia and Africa and projects in the Arts & Culture genre. Projects that he has produced for have screened at numerous festivals internationally, won awards and have been sold to TV5Monde, Aljazeera, Arte (France), ZDF (Germany), NRK (Norway), NTR (Netherlands), YLE (Finland), DRK (Denmark), Czeska Televise (Czech Republic) and ERR (Estonia).
Projects he has co-/exec-/produced have also been supported by Sundance Institute, Cinereach and Tribeca Film Institute (USA); Jan Vrijman Fund (Netherlands); Organisation de la Francophonie (France); Doha Film Institute (Qatar); Sanad (Abu Dhabi); Enjaaz (Dubai); Screen Institute Beirut and AFAC (Lebanon); Hot Docs Blue Ice Group Fund (Canada); and MEDIA.
Talal holds a BA & MA in Film & Moving Image Production from Leeds Metropolitan University in the UK and a Certificate in Fundraising from New York University.
Performing Arts Profile:
Talal Al-Muhanna is a performing artsist who was born in Kuwait and later raised in England and the United States. He received his professional training at the Elmhurst School of Dance in England and at North Carolina School of the Arts in the U.S.A. While still a student in the U.K., Talal appeared at the Royal Festival Hall, the Duke of York Theatre in London's West End and on the BBC children's television programme Blue Peter.
As a performer, Talal has appeared in numerous theatrical stage productions in the United States, Europe and Asia - including productions of West Side Story, The Merchant of Venice and Faust. He has worked with choreographers Eliot Feld (Feld Ballets/NY), Jai Gonzales (UnterwegsTheater/Germany) and William Forsythe (Ballett Frankfurt) - whose company he appeared with at the opening of TATE Modern in London in 2000.
As an arts producer, Talal has developed and produced numerous live concerts, performances and installations involving dance, drama, music, film and video art. He has curated film screenings and performing arts programs for venues and festivals throughout Europe, including in Germany for Ballett Frankfurt/Das TAT, the Frankfurt Culture Committee, TANZinternational and Forum Neue Art (Heidelberg); in Holland for the Korzo Theater; in Finland for Zodiak Center for New Dance; and in Ireland for Daghdha Dance Company and the DanceHouse.
