Gary Reimer

Biography

Gary Douglas Reimer was born in North London. He is of English, Irish, Canadian, Russian, German and Dutch descent. He briefly spent part of his childhood in Canada, gaining dual nationality before returning to England at the age of 8. The move to Canada was encouraged by his Canadian grandfather, who left a Mennonite community in Manitoba to join the army in WW2. During WW2, his grandfather met his spouse in London and emigrated after the war. Gary was raised in a Mormon household (unusual for a Brit) and even served as a Mormon missionary in Ireland for two years in his early twenties. In recent years he has distanced himself from religion though he has a profound respect for anyone with a faith and religious beliefs. At the age of 7, he was diagnosed with ADHD and has done a lot of work throughout his life helping others with the condition, particularly parents with concerns for their children with the condition and teachers to understand how best to serve children with ADHD needs. Initially, he was due to join the military; influenced but his grandfather who fought in WW2 and his great grandfather who, in the King's Royal Rifles, was on the front line for the whole of WW1. His progression to become a pilot for the RAF was halted when he became too tall for jet cockpits, and his eyesight wasn't quite up to their high standards. Growing up Mormon, he was encouraged to study at BYU, and was excepted into their award-winning BFA Acting school after successfully auditioning. His progress into the arts was slower than he had hoped due to the setbacks in his family life and religious responsibilities. While at BYU, Gary was nominated for the Irene Ryan theatre awards for his performances in Oh, Pioneer! and Dancing at Lughnasa. Gary has always been extremely adventurous throughout his life. Even though he was raised in a humble home with modest means, he had the opportunity to excel at show jumping, fencing, archery as a boy/young teen. In his teenage years was a very talented athlete, especially in running. In 2015 he ascended his first seven summits mountain (Mount Elbrus) with longtime friend and fellow actor Peter Gadiot.
