Biography

An Israeli-filmmaker based in New York, Yonatan has been showcasing his work as a filmmaker since 2005 when, aged 14, he completed his feature doc debut My Grandma: Frau Masha (2005). The film went on to exhibit theatrically in local cinematheques, screen in international festivals and was sold for broadcast on Israeli National Television. His first independent short film, If You Tell Your Dreams They Won't Come True (2013), was selected for NFFTY 2012 and Cannes Festival's Short Film Corner in 2013, and was recently featured on the online magazine Film Shortage. After serving three years as chief Video Editor & Director in the Israeli Air Force Film Unit, Yonatan enrolled at NYU Tisch where he focused on writing & directing. Throughout his studies, Yonatan trained and worked with the BBC in London and crewed on multiple feature film and television sets internationally. He was one of two directors chosen annually to direct a full half-hour television pilot, Easel R. (2015), involved from the very first script draft to the very final cut. His second thesis project Leecher (2016) and most recent short Goodnight Eulogy (2017) (shot on 35mm), are now in the festival circuit, with Goodnight Eulogy (2017) premiering in Los Angeles as an Official Selection of HollyShorts 2017. Since graduating with Honors from Tisch, Yonatan worked for Protozoa Pictures (Darren Aronofsky), as an Assistant to Wes Anderson, and currently serves as Director of Development for Yaron Zilberman's (A Late Quartet) Opening Night Productions. In 2016, Yonatan also branched out into the theater world, making his theatrical directorial debut in New York with MARY V, a new female-driven full length play (inspired by Shakespeare's Henry V), which featured a cast of 25 actors and received nods from Broadway World, Playbill & The New York Times.
