Nils Clauss is an award-winning cinematographer whose music videos, shorts, features and documentary films have been screened at such international film festivals as Palm Springs, Cinequest and Guanajuato. Six of his films have been selected as Vimeo Staff Picks, and he was selected for Saatchi & Saatchi's prestigious New Directors' Showcase at Cannes and nominated for the category Best Alternative Video at the UK Music Video Awards for Senior Living by Röyksopp. His work has featured in several high-profile online publications, including The Atlantic, Colossal, Directors Notes, Huffington Post, It's Nice That, Fast Company, Short of the Week, The Verge and Vice Creators. His commercial work includes shooting, directing, and editing for such diverse blue-chip international clients as AirBnB, Burberry, Chevrolet, Facebook, Google, GS Caltex, Hilton, Hyundai, Millet, MIT, Nike, Samsung and Western Union, among others.
Born and raised in Germany, Nils moved to South Korea in 2005, where he completed his MFA in Cinematography at the Graduate School of Advanced Imaging Science, Multimedia and Film at Chungang University. Together with his working partner Neil Dowling he has co-owned and run the Seoul and Oslo based production company Contented for more than 10 years.
