Tara Atashgah is a writer, director, editor from Los Angeles. She was raised in Tehran, and moved to California to pursue filmmaking at the age of 19. She graduated with a BA in Film and Video Production and an MFA in Screenwriting from Brooks Institute in Ventura/Santa Barbara. Her Master's thesis film, For The Birds, a movie about of the execution of a teenage girl in Iran, was screened in 40 film festivals worldwide and won over a dozen awards. A few of the prestigious awards include, the 2013 Best Student Woman Director Award from the Directors Guild of America, 2014 Best Narrative Short Film Award from the Cleveland International Film Festival which qualified the film for the Academy Award submission and an Emmy from the 2015 Student Television Academy Awards (2nd place in Drama).
Tara became a finalist at the NBC Universal Emerging Writers Fellowship for her most recent feature script. She continues to edit the script and plans to direct it in the coming year.
