Mary Gerretsen

Mary Gerretsen is passionate about story telling. After receiving a B.F.A in film studies from Ryerson University and a Business Management Certificate from Humber College, she pursued her love for filmmaking as an Assistant Director on projects such as The Gathering, a Lifetime Network mini-series, and as an Administrative Assistant for Whizbang Films under acclaimed Canadian director and actor Paul Gross. Mary nourished her creative skills when she moved on to work at Engage Learning Systems, where she excelled in Shooting and Video Editing for fortune 500 clients ranging from McDonald's, Western Union and Four Seasons to CIBC. At the same time, she was actively involved in the production of Toronto's Late Night in the Bedroom, which was an independent online emerging arts and culture talk show, where Mary's roles ranged from Producing and Directing to Shooting and Editing. She truly flourished when she rose to the challenge of Associate Producing season's 6 through 8 for Discovery Network's Cash Cab. Shortly thereafter, Mary continued to cultivate her creative talents by making music videos for Independent Bands in Toronto including, Evening Hymns, Heart Beat Hotel, The Short and Curlies, Forest City Lovers and Au Palais. She even created a collection of tour diaries traveling through Eastern Europe with the Lemon Bucket Orckestra, Toronto's only "Balkan-gypsy-klezmer-party-punk-super-band". After retuning home, Mary established herself at the CBC, by Shooting and Editing for the CBC LIVE department, Editing the behind the scenes content for the production of Over the Rainbow and Associate Producing, Shooting and Editing field segments for the design show Steven and Chris. In between contracts, Mary juggles freelance Producing, Shooting and Editing for an array of clients from SID LEE to the Government of Canada. In her spare time, Mary enjoys the pains and gains of Olympic Weight Lifting and competing in Crossfit. Most importantly, she loves the challenge of assembling information in a captivating way, an asset that has bettered her as a filmmaker and Videographer.
