Doug is the 4th of 6 children born to Harold and Marian Nufer. At the time of his birth, his father was stationed in Oslo, Norway with the US Air Force. They moved often, finally settling in Houghton, Michigan when Doug was 7.
Doug is a graduate from Houghton High School and later earned a BA from Brigham Young University and an MBA from the University of Phoenix. His professional life has been spent as a program manager in the software industry.
In 1987, he married Teresa Tuckett. They have five children.
Acting is a hobby that he includes his children in when possible. At various times, he has acted in plays with all five of his children. His roles have ranged from a Civil War father to Injun Joe.
Doug's first film role was for "American River" a pilot for a TV series that did not get picked up and was later renamed to "Mothers, Daughters and Lovers". He can be seen in the climatic speech scene, standing behind Helen Shaver, and in the hallway afterward walking down the stairs.
He was later "Sign Guy" in the basketball scene of "High School Musical 3" which also included two of his daughters, his brother, and his nephew. His daughter, Merissa was able to be the Timekeeper for the game.
Doug has also written numerous short stories and novels.
