Biography

Sam is a New Zealand-based film and television writer with a background in writing and directing theatre. In 2020, he developed an original series with production company Sister, working with Jane Featherstone (Chernobyl) and Executive Producer Neil Cross (Luther) and developed two hour-long drama series for Warner Brothers International. Sam has written on numerous television shows including the upcoming 13-part YA series Mystic for the BBC's CBBC, Australia's Seven and New Zealand's TVNZ. Previously, Sam wrote for the prime-time drama Filthy Rich currently airing on Hulu, and an international thriller for Acorn TV. Sam's critically acclaimed play The Idea of America, won several awards, and his feature film script, The Hidden, was recognized in the top 1% of the Page International Screenwriting Awards, selected from over five thousand entries. In addition to screenwriting, Sam has spent many years working with at-risk youth and created and lead an initiative to promote gay rights in New Zealand. For this work, he received a finalist position in the 2013 Young New Zealander of the Year Awards, one of New Zealand's highest accolades.
