Rochanya Alexandra Charlotte Generous (born July 14, 1992), known professionally as Alix Generous, is a French-American scientist, artist, author, and comedian. As a prominent figure in the Ableism movement, her TED talk "My Inner Life..." has received over 1.4 million views. Her work has been featured on NPR, TED, Bloomberg Businessweek, TEDx, and the Sydney Opera House. She promotes ableism through high impact media and observational comedy in addition to being an advocate for scientific literacy, child welfare, and for the advancement of mental diversity in the entertainment industry.
Generous was born and raised in Potomac, MD, Santa Fe, NM, Provo, UT, and Nice, France. She studied at Berklee College of Music, the College of Charleston, and the University of Vermont. In 2011, she worked with Cisternyard media as a staff writer and created the radio show Brains and Fluff: Making Science Sexy. From 2011-2013, she researched neuropathic pain at the Medical University of South Carolina with Dr. Arthur Riegel. In summer of 2012, she traveled to Indonesia to research coral reef biology with Dr. Phillip Dustan. Her ideas concerning coral reef microbiology were published in the Columbia University journal Consilience: Journal of Sustainable Development. In October 2012, she addressed the United Nations at their Convention on Biological Diversity. In 2013, she researched traumatic brain injuries at Tufts Medical School with Dr. Chris Dulla, Ph.D. Later that year, she co-founded Autismsees, a social impact startup based in Cambridge, MA and helped produce an application Podium. In the fall of 2013, She was a youth delegate to the United Nations Convention of Climate Change with SustainUs. From 2013-2016, she traveled around the world speaking on Autism and Technology. As of September 2016, she resigned as co-founder from Autismsees. She lives in Los Angeles, CA.
