Sergey Mavrody moved to US from Moscow, Russia in 1990. In 1996 he was granted a green card as an "Alien of Extraordinary Ability". He is an Emmy Award-winning production designer for The Bridge a musical film (1988).
Sergey received his first graduate degree in animation from VGIK film school, Moscow, Russia. His professor was Ivan Ivanov-Vano, who was a Russian animation director, widely recognized as the Patriarch of Russian animation.
Sergey earned his second MFA degree in Interaction Design and Computer Animation from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, where he received the Melissa Sage Booth graduate fellowship.
In 1991, Sergey produced and directed an animated film Dangerous Planet, which received an Honorable Mention award at the North Carolina International Festival and the 3rd Place at the Chicago Moving Image Film/Video Festival.
For several years, Sergey Mavrody worked for the Academy Award winning studio Calabash Animation. He is also a professor at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and DeVry University. Sergey served as a board member at the A.S.I.F.A. animation association (Midwest Chapter) and as a Head of the Animation Jury at the Chicago International Film Festival.
