Tom Bates

Mayor of Berkeley, California and married to former Berkeley mayor Loni Hancock. Member of 1959 UC Berkeley football team. Bates and Hancock have four children and seven grandchildren. Former realtor long involved in California politics, who was convicted of destroying 1000 copies of UC Berkeley student newspaper The Daily Californian which featured his mayoral rival Shirley Dean.
