Biography

Keiko Araki became the director of Japan's oldest regular event for cinephiles in that country, the Pia Film Festival, in 1992. The festival had started in 1977 as an outgrowth of the Pia magazine, which was founded five years earlier by students in the Tokyo university film club with the aim of listing all the films playing in that city in a given week, with information on the venues and show times.The Pia festival under Keiko Araki's leadership has continued to focus on finding and encouraging first time directors.
