Biography

David Light was born in Philadelphia, PA. He graduated Cheltenham High School and Columbia University. After college, he animated on the feature film Cats Don't Dance, before working at Nickelodeon & MTV Animation as a Development Exec. Light first teamed up with his writing partner, Joseph Raso, in the MFA program at Columbia University's Graduate Film Division. Light & Raso created, wrote and sold comedy pilots to NBC, SONY, ABC Family, Nickelodeon, Disney Channel, and CBC. Light also sold a story idea to Larry David's "Curb Your Enthusiasm," The Bow Tie episode: about the etiquette of the handicapped stall in public bathrooms. Their music driven comedy pilot Zombies & Cheerleaders became the springboard for Disney Channel's original musical ZOMBIES franchise. ZOMBIES was cable television's #1-rated telecast among kids and tweens in 2018. Zombies message of inclusion and tolerance was recognized by being named a Humanitas Prize Finalist. Light & Raso's 2020 sequel ZOMBIES 2 was cable television's #1 telecast outpacing its 2018 predecessor. The sequel scored the highest ratings among all Kid and Girl demographics and ranks in the Top 5 TV Chart, and #1 on iTunes Soundtrack chart. Disney Channels Worldwide President and chief creative officer, Gary Marsh said, "For anyone who thought 'zombies were dead,' think again! Clearly, the originality and creativity brought by our brilliant production team - the director, producers, writers, songwriters and composer and an incredibly talented cast -- has re-awakened kids' fascination with this genre of storytelling." Light is married to Rabbi Sharon Brous founder of IKAR who was named by Newsweek/Daily Beast as the #1 most influential Rabbi in America. He is represented by William Morris Endeavor.
