Michelle Nicolette Kowalski, a Louisiana native, was born in Baton Rouge, and in following her passion of holding her friends hostage to make films, she moved to New Orleans for film school 3 weeks before Katrina, keeping with her penchant for perfect timing.
Rid of thankfully all of her belongings, Kowalski moved back to Baton Rouge. Bidding her time by getting involved in the Louisiana Film Center, WBRZ, and creating short films in the LSU Cinema Club. By 2007, Kowalski finally escaped back to her favorite country in the U.S., New Orleans.
Kowalski attended University Of New Orleans, rated 4th in the nation film program. She participated in several short films, UNO Cinema club, and was trained by her mentor Ralph Madison, whom she shadowed on film sets and commercials.
Now a grad of the UNO Film program, she has been fortunate enough to take advantage of the new Hollywood South. Earlier work including camera department for cop drama 'Dark Blue', Bullet Films' horror flick 'Monster Hunter' and Films in Motions' action movie, 'Blood Out' starring Luke Goss. Kowalski is Director of Photography for music video with New Orleans' local band, 'Mohican Scouts' and 2010 NOLA 48hr film festival short flick 'Trust Bob', a dark comedy which won 4 awards; Audience Choice, Best Actress, Best Use of Prop and Best of New Orleans.
Kowalski's recent work include camera department for dark comedy 'Rainbows End' in this years Big Easy International Film and Music Festival, and thriller film 'Hunter' nominated 4 awards in Shockfest, Los Angeles. Kowalski is Director of Photography for an in studio music video for up and coming artist Nasimiyu Murumba, and CO-Director of Photography for an upcoming dark comedy TV/Wed mini series called 'Bourbon Whiz' a surrealist collide of 'The Wizard OZ' and New Orleans. Kowalski also recently had the honor of working as a grip on 'D'Jango' under Quentin Tarantino and Oscar winning Robert Richardson.
Kowalski is also involved in photo and video installation art that can be seen around the city and is apart of many other activities around New Orleans including dancer of a 60's go-go dance group for The Essentials and pro fence hopper for the perfect location on a shoot.
