Alfred Chaumel

Biography

Alfred Chaumel, born in Pouance on June 6th, 1889, was an administrator in France's colonies, an author, and a world traveller who put together films of curiosities he saw on his trips ,beginning in 1924, with his wife Genevieve Chaunel-Gentil (daughter of explorer Emile Gentil.) These films were exhibited by the Societe de Geographie and in theatres, with sound commentary later added for reissue in 1942. Footage from his 1950 film Les Amours Jaunes was used by Marker and Resnais in their Les Statues Meurent Aussi. Chaumel died in 1976.
