André Lavaquial graduated in History from Universidade Estadual do Rio de Janeiro (UERJ). He studied direction at Escola de Cinema Darcy Ribeiro - Rio de Janeiro, (Brazil) - and photography at Escuela Internacional de Cine y Televisión / EICTV (Cuba). Also took part into the meeting of young filmmakers organized by the Berlin International Film Festival, Berlinale Talent Campus in 2008. Directed three short films and is finishing his first full-length, the documentary "Urbano Xangô". He's already worked as a director of photography and assistant director in films and productions for Brazilian TV channels. His last short film "The Sound and the Rest" was selected by Cannes International Film Festival 2008 (France), Clermont-Ferrand International Film Festival 2008 (France), San Sebastián International Film Festival - Donostia 2007 (Spain) and by many others festivals in Brazil and abroad. "The Sound and the Rest" won the audience choice prize in the São Paulo International Short Film Festival and was nationally broadcast by TVE Brasil in a programme on Brazilian short films called Curta Brasil.
