Cornelia James studied art in Vienna before arriving in England as a refugee in 1939. Seven years later she started up her glovemaking company. Her reputation was sealed in 1952 when Princess Elizabeth (now Queen Elizabeth II ) chose James to make her gloves for her marriage to Prince Philip . The company is still in a family business today and, since 1986, they have been glovemakers 'by appointment' to the British Royal Family.
Her son Peter James is a thriller writer and film producer.
