Gustavo Galvão was born in Brasilia, on August 18th, 1976. Having directed and released two features and seven short films between 2002 and 2013, he has secured his place as one of the Brazilian capital's most prolific filmmakers. His films have been shown at over 100 festivals worldwide and purchased by major TV broadcasters in Brazil. Shorts such as "Danae" (2004), "A Minha Maneira de Estar Sozinho" ("My Own Way of Being Alone", 2008) and award-winning "A Vida ao Lado" ("Life Next Door", 2006) revisit a style where urban relations constitute the springboard for reevaluating aesthetic aspects of cinema, as in Galvão's first feature film, "Nove Crônicas para um Coração aos Berros" ("Nine Chronicles for a Screaming Heart"). Based on different characters from an unidentified city at the moment of their personal reinvention, the film was awarded a special mention from the FIPRESCI Jury at the 31st International Film Festival of Uruguay and was released in nine cities throughout Brazil (2013-2014). In 2014, his second feature, the critically acclaimed "Uma Dose Violenta de Qualquer Coisa" ("A Violent Dose of Anything"), was released in 17 cities. The movie draws on the road movie tradition in order to reinvent it. Graduated in Journalism at the University of Brasilia and in Filmmaking at the Escuela Universitaria de Artes y Espectáculos (former Escuela Superior de Artes y Espectáculos, in Madrid, Spain), Gustavo Galvão has also been working as curator and programmer of film festivals and exhibitions. Since 2004, he developed 11 events for Centro Cultural Banco do Brasil (Rio, São Paulo, and Brasilia) and one for Caixa Cultural (Rio).
