Biography

Ms. Tapia is a Chicago-based producer/director. She has over eight years of experience producing and directing for television and film. She has been a successful independent producer for Chicago Access Network since 1999. There Ms. Tapia was the creator of Latina Spirit/Spiritu de Latina a program that showcased the Latino life and culture in a positive manner. Tapia's first short film, Buscando a Lety/In Search of Lety, was broadcast on SiTV, a national cable station. Moreover, this same short film was screened in national and international film festivals. The success of this short, led Tapia to work on an expanded feature film, Buscando a Leti/In Search of Leti. Univision-Unicine selected Ms. Tapia's feature film to launch their DVD line. Currently Univision-Unicine is distributing the film nationally and Gran Cine is distributing it international. Ms. Tapia produced Buscando a Leti/In Search of Leti while she was completing her Master's degree in Film and Video at Columbia College Chicago. Tapia also holds a Bachelors degree in Education which she received from the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC). Throughout her producing career, Tapia has managed to maintain her teaching career. She is committed to teach inner city children. Her inspiration has always been her former, current and future students. Further more, as a creator, with every project Ms. Tapia strives to improve her skills. She challenges to rise above the previous projects, thus her latest film Silent Shame addresses current controversial topics. In development she has a film based on a hastily Mexican Legion, La Llorona/The Weeping Woman. Via her projects Tapia seeks to create changes.
