Al F. Frakes
Al Frakes, like so many filmmakers, started out as an actor in the mid 70's appearing in such major productions as Resurrection and Dallas. Some of his national commercials appearances were for Lancer's Wine and Gulf Oil.
Al moved behind the camera in the late 70's where he has become an accredited, award winning, independent film producer, director and writer of dozens of movie, television and commercial projects. A few of his film credits include, Powder Play, Law of the Six Gun, Pirates of Santa Maria, Consequences and The Ultimate Spring Break.
His documentaries include the Yugoslavia productions of Rape of Reason, The Mississippi Miracle and Doctor's of Dance. He has also completed numerous music videos, and commercials working with 20th Century Fox, Lorimar, American Film Company, and Universal Studios. Al served as Vice-President in charge of production for CFJ Independent Pictures were he produced and directed a James Brown special.
In the early 80's a beautiful actress from San Antonio, named Mary Don Hutchins caught his eye and in 1982 they were married and he made San Antonio his home and base of operation.
Al served as President of Almar film/television Company, where he designed and supervised the construction of their production sound stage, green screen, audio recording studio, editing bays and support facilities. He then moved on to become CEO of ALMADON Film/Television Productions and oversaw the completion of their studios.
He worked closely with Paragon Pictures International and was listed as one of their key directors/producers. Mr. Frakes has served on the Board of Directors for a number of companies and organizations including, The American Film Company, Dallas Texas, Oceanova Studios, Los Angeles, California, the Paseo Del Rio Association, San Antonio Texas and the Chairman of the Greater San Antonio Film Council Board of Directors for fifteen years.
Mr. Frakes served over six years as a Commissioner on the San Antonio Convention & Visitors Commission and Committee Chairman of the San Antonio Convention & Visitors Film Division for over five year.
Mr. Frakes is the President/CEO of The Greater San Antonio Film Association, Inc. a 501c3 accredited charity and the owner, along with his partner William Turpin of SAF Studios, Inc. He is a member of The Texas Association of Film Professionals, IMDb Pro and a life time member of DAV.
