Biography

Sandra Portal-Andreu is a Miami native of Cuban/Colombian descent. She received an A.A. from New World School of the Arts, a B.F.A. in Dance from Florida State University, and a M.S. in Movement Sciences from Barry University. In 2012, she received the Professional Development Grant from New World School of the Arts to attend the summer intensive at the Workcentre of Jerzy Grotowski and Thomas Richards in Pontedera, Italy. Her performance experience includes: Josee Garant Dance, Ballet Theater of Miami, Florida Grand Opera's "AIDA", Miami City Ballet's "Lounge 2200", and TOC Project.Mrs. Portal-Andreu is adjunct faculty of the Theatre Division at the New World School of the Arts where she concentrates on Movement for Theatre with a focus on Gyrokinesis and Grotowski. Additionally, Sandra has taught at the Miami City Ballet School, Barry University, Vladimir Issaev's Classical Ballet Russian Seminar and University of Miami's Young Musician's Camp. Her choreographic work has been presented throughout Florida, Texas and Nassau, Bahamas. She was resident choreographer for City Theatre and has created original work for their Family Musicals Series and Summer Shorts Festival. Additional choreographic credits include: "Deep Surface: An Homage to the Sea", The Naked Stage Theater Company's "Nerve", and Sarasota Contemporary Dance. Sandra has completed a new dance on film project with filmmaker Claudio Marcotulli entitled, "Labyrinth" which will premiere during Art Basel 2016. She has been awarded grants through Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs and commissions from the Miami-Dade Public Library System and Miami Light Project's Here & Now 2016. Additional Film, Theater & Commercial credits include: "Marilyn in Miami" by Agatino Zurria, "Dancer" by Dara Friedman, Carlos Ponce's "Todo lo que Soy", Iron and Wine's "Lion's Mane", Super Bowl XXX Pregame Show featuring KISS and Cher and Sabado Gigante. She has appeared in local, regional and national commercials including Cheerios, Walmart, and has done voice-over work for TV and radio. In November 2016, her short play "LuvBytes" premiered at MicroTheater Miami. Sandra deeply thanks her family and friends for their continuous love and support. She, also, credits her husband, Juan and two sons, Julian and Gabriel, who encourage and inspire her to continue moving and creating.
