Born in 1973 in Iowa, Matthew Moul is a Primetime Emmy-winning producer, editor, and director based in Los Angeles, California. His paternal grandfather Mark Bingaman was killed in action with 800 other sailors aboard the U.S.S. Franklin aircraft carrier near the end of World War II, and Matt has always felt a special connection with this man he never knew. Matt's first documentary feature film about U.S. military veterans of multiple generations, SURVIVING HOME, which he co-directed with Jillian Moul, secured distribution on PBS and Amazon after winning several film festival awards including Best Film at Chicago International Social Change Film Festival. From the Scene Chicago Magazine review: "The way the Mouls perceive and frame their subjects lifts SURVIVING HOME into the lofty realm of Documentary Artistry." in 2019, Matt was Co-Executive Producer of the groundbreaking Netflix documentary series, DIAGNOSIS, produced by Scott Rudin and Lightbox's Jonathan Chinn and Simon Chinn, in association with the New York Times. According to NPR: "Where the series really shines is in expanding the vision beyond mystery and into explorations of how being sick, particularly without much hope for any effective treatment, affects people's lives." Matt was also Co-Executive Producer and Editor of Lightbox's 2015 documentary series, THE RUNNER-UP, which was a critic's pick in the Los Angeles Times. In the Spanish language market, Mateo was Co-Executive Producer of Netflix's MADE IN MEXICO, which The RInger described as: "MADE IN MEXICO is devastatingly effective, the kind of show you'll click on out of mild curiosity and then find yourself resurfacing from a full eight hours later." As a producer/editor, Matt has worked with HBO, Showtime, Netflix, Amazon, Starz, PBS, and AMC among many other networks over the course of 18 years. He has three Emmy nominations as an editor, and was part of the bilingual team which earned a Peabody Award for KCET's groundbreaking educational series about child care, A PLACE OF OUR OWN/LOS NIÑOS EN SU CASA. Matt graduated from the University of Southern California with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the School of Dramatic Arts and was a National Merit Scholar. In 2009, Webb Weiman, a co-worker who later became a lifelong friend, started calling him The Sultan, a practice which endures in certain circles to this day.
