Kelly O'Neil Jackson was born in Iowa City, Iowa in 1966. He moved to Los Angeles with his family while still in grade school. He attended the Performing Arts Magnet Center at Pacoima Junior High School high school, and continued his love of performing as a student at Blair High School in Pasadena, California.
Following graduation, Kelly surprised those who knew him by joining the U.S. Marine Corps. In his off-duty time, he continued taking acting classes and performing in plays while stationed in Southern California where he eventually earned his union card with the Screen Actor's Guild in 1993. He has been at times a model, rapper, singer, poet, and dancer.
Following his retirement from the Corps in 2004, he turned his attention to back to acting, landing roles in the Danica McKellar's "Inspector Mom" and the network TV series "Prison Break", "Friday Night Lights" and "Army Wives."
He was cast as the lead in M. Legend Brown's faith-based hit "Hiding In Plain Sight" and has since collaborated on several other projects with Legend, including "A Heart That Forgives".
