Michael Sheridan

Biography

Michael's first attempts at filmmaking began with creating animated shorts with a simple video camera in the early 1990s when he was in high school. His first live action short film was in his senior year and was titled, "The Grim Reaper Cometh", a dark comedy for a Film as Literature class. This led to Michael working with other students, editing their video projects for classes on two VCRs joined together through a simple piece of sound-mixing equipment. After working as a copyboy at the New York Daily News for three years, he attended Watkins Film School in Nashville, Tennessee in 1997. While there, he learned to utilize Hi8 video and editing equipment. Returning to New York, he attended the New York Film Academy, shooting three more shorts with 16mm film and conventional editing equipment (Steenbecks). Continuing his work in journalism, Michael wrote for the Daily News for a year, then moved on as a reporter - and later, as an editor - for the Queens Chronicle, a local newspaper in Queens, NY. During that time, he continued his film career working as a boom operator, grip, production assistant and extra on several short and feature-length motion pictures. He has recently completed a 20-minute short film, "Prologue", and is currently working on developing a documentary and feature film.
