John Dowling Jr. A.K.A. John Joseph Dowling Jr. has been involved in technology and the arts since he was in Elementary School. He loves creating and has often been told that he has the "heart and mind of an artist". John has the ability to use both the left side and right side of his brain and started working with computers in seventh grade and later became one of the first to own a commodore 64, John was fascinated with computers and art as well. As John has produced and directed feature films, photographed national ad campaigns, designed database driven analytical software, and architected the futuristic social media network platform, Private Social Media Networks, Inc. he has truly proven his initial instincts were accurate proving both his abilities behind the camera, technology, software development, and emerging technologies.
John was born at Saint John's Hospital in Queens New York, John was only four pounds and fourteen ounces at birth and premature, however, due to his parents lower income, the hospital did not accommodate providing them with an incubator. Although now 6'1", John was one of the smallest in his classes through junior high school until he started growing six to nine inches per year. However, while still a toddler he quickly became the object of many model agents praises as he had nearly white hair and brilliant blue eyes. John has two sisters his older sister Christine Dowling Cooper and his younger sister Joan Elizabeth Dowling. John's father was a carpenter who built fine furniture and houses while John was a boy and John found sanctuary for his creative passion in building and carving with his father spending most of his time in his father's woodworking shop. During his early days in elementary school, at Newbridge Road Elementary School John was the main contributor to a life size mural, which graced the hallways long after John graduated, and remains there to this day. John also appeared in leading roles in many of the schools seasonal and holiday plays, later going on to sing for three years in chorus and performing several solos'.
Although John loved performing in theatrical productions and singing, as john entered junior high school he became more interested in sports and spent the better part of his teenage years as an athlete, and therefore knows what it is like to work as a team player. John's approach to most every creative and technical project as a team approach originated from this foundation. John wrestled for six years, from seventh grade through twelfth grade, and participated in four Varsity teams in his senior year alone earning him an award that only eight students from over five hundred achieved in his graduating class. John also enjoyed running with his Ultra marathon Iron Man father who founded the Long Island Road Runners Club. John and his father often ran upwards of six miles in and around Eisenhower Park daily, hundreds of road races, and several marathons side by side. John held the record for the 220-meter relay with several of his running buddies from his high school for well over ten years, and also ran his best mile in four minutes fifty-nine seconds.
John was an exceptional student when he applied himself (as he often made sports his priority) but even so he received a regions - honors diploma and graduated in the top ten percent of his class. Although he did not know it at the time, John had severe dyslexia, which made it nearly impossible to read long chapters or novels, but his uncanny memory pretty much allowed him to succeed despite the significant challenges he had reading. To this day John has never read a single novel, he says he prefers long complicated technical manuals and scientific analysis to someone else's stories, and ever since his first computer acquisition has the ability to read and type nearly as fast as he can think.
John was raised in East Meadow and although he moved to Centerport (North Shore of Long Island's Gold Coast - between Huntington and Northport) John often speaks fondly of his hometown, its educational system, and the camaraderie he has maintained with his classmates to this day. It was during his time in high school when John started dating a former graduate who was attending college, that John took his first set of semi-professional photographs. Then Michael Kevin Daily John's older cousin and accomplished photographer used John for some stock photography and modeling projects for Corbis Stock Market. His first girlfriends were John's inspiration to learn photography and within a year of graduating high school, the original Corbis Stock Market started representing John Dowling and his photographs were appearing on covers of magazines, including several covers of the then very popular Long Island Nightlife Magazine, and in international advertising campaigns of fortune 500 companies.
John started photography professionally as he just entered his second year of college at Nassau County Community College where he was studying various courses in law, accounting, statistics, art, and engineering. As his photographs started to appear more and more in magazines and the largest modeling agencies in the world were seeking John out for his uncanny ability to use natural light to capture stunning images (virtually effortlessly) John decided to take a break from obtaining his degree and to pursue his dream of living and working around the arts, at that time moving to SOHO to work as a full time editorial and Fashion Photographer. John shot editorial for Calvin Klein, Henry Grethel, Tommy Hilfiger, and countless other mostly men's fashion designers.
As a result of John's introduction to other photographers through his association as a photographer for Corbis Stock Market (Then referred to as simply the Stock Market) John was asked to model by many of the other photographers, where John learned many of the lighting techniques of many of the masters including Ken Haak, Richard Scavulo, and countless others. John also appeared in GQ, Men's Guide To Fitness, Exercise Magazine, Sports Scene, and various sports and fashioned themed magazines. However, his heart was more comfortable behind the camera then in front of it and he quickly upgraded from his SOHO apartment to a Penthouse Duplex on 81st Street on the Upper East Side of Manhattan. There he operated his photo studio during the day and at night bartended and managed "the VIP list" at the Palladium, then the largest and most popular night club in the world where he regularly hosted parties for celebrities after their performances, and John also was a guest at the first ever MTV Music Awards. After about a year of living in the fast lane, John resigned from the Palladium and became the National Account Manager for New York Film Works a notable professional photo finishing and film processing laboratory where he interacted with the top ad agencies and photo studios in the world on a daily basis and also learned to print and every aspect of the traditional darkroom. Although John held both creative and technical positions, John finds himself loving the fact that he is building Private Social Media Networks, Inc as well as his production company Natural Light Studios, Inc. (his production studio on and off for the past 30 plus years). Now that the world has evolved and both photographic and video media have become such a valued asset in communicating so efficiently John was provided with an opportunity to mix both of his careers both behind the camera while producing web series, music videos, shorts, and one experimental feature film; while he also thrived behind the computer designing and architecting several software programs winning product of the year awards and Editors Choice Awards from Teleconnect and Computer Telephony Magazines.
Private Social Media Networks, Inc. (PSMN) is a for profit invite only social media network platform that provides extreme levels of privacy through advanced encryption and at the same time provides the conveniences of the mega social networks without harvesting your "life or competitive data" and selling that information to the highest bidders. PSMN's are similar to Ted.com, Youtube.com in that they use video as the main means to communicate, but at the same time you own your own networks, allow for video conferencing, instant messaging, and many to many conversations in a privately hosted environment. While John is the Founder and primary architect of these broadcasting / social networks, he has turned over the day to day operations to extremely successful team of executives while he continues to walk with his cameras whether on assignment or as importantly for cardio rehab and physical therapy.
John was diagnosed in his early twenties with several genetic mutations that effect his bodies ability to metabolize certain fats more commonly known as Lipids, cholesterol, and triglycerides which at first left the medical community baffled as to how he was even still alive (after predicting that he should not make any long term plans). With that John turned from technology back to his career as an artist to combine his creative dreams, with his desire to survive. In more ways than John's subjects ever imagined walking with both photographic and video cameras upwards of ten miles daily (and advances in medications and surgical techniques) John is still with us. However, not without enduring over thirty years of pain and sacrifices to survive.
While he owes his life to the incredible surgeons who pioneered medical procedures like Doctor Pad, Doctor Richard Shlofmitz, Dr. Richard Mattano, and most recently to Dr. Jeffery Moses (who in 2013 opened two over 4 inch long 100% blocked arteries in John's heart after ten years of failed attempts) but also to his primary care physician Dr. Paul Leva who relentlessly and passionately ordered test after test to find that John had several other underlying diseases and injuries which were masked by the excruciating pain from claudication (PAD) and the myalgia (side effects of extreme dosages of statins).
While John credits the surgeons with making him the "titanium man" he often refers to his father and children as his inspiration who's support motivated him to walk through the pain and grow new arteries where the stents and surgeries failed for over thirty years. John was married one time to his wife Stephanie L.C. Dowling and two children were brought into this world as a result of their marriage. However, they remain distant and somewhat estranged despite the fact they raised their two beautiful children alternatively with shared custody and his children spending four days on even weeks, and three on odd at each of "Dad's house and Mom's house" from the time John Joseph Dowling III and Emily Dowling were only 4 and 1 respectively.
As John is an extremely conservative father, he is also a very none conservative person in general and from a very early time in his life and career in the eighties as a fashion photographer in NYC had many chapters of love with more women than he can remember, and he often speaks to others about the incredible chapters of love he has shared with so many incredible women, every one of them worthy of his love and a mention in his memoirs and documentary soon to be released about his life "Where's the Love?" which is in post production currently.
Although John is both a software architect, analyst, and software designer, he always has dedicated his life to his children and raising them hands on and making them his first priority. Although his subjects praise him for his creativity John feels is his greatest contribution to the world, are his two children John Joseph Dowling III and Emily Mai Dowling.
Now that John is capable of producing again, he is starting to practice in his new hometown Naples Florida. Although John spend the first 50 years of his life as a Strong Islander (Long Islander) he is training his body to be able to work again and building up his stamina with the new "bionic heart" the surgeons fixed, at least the physical break, the human side of his heart is still on the mend as it is no secret that John all but gave up on love knowing his life was constantly in danger for decades after his divorce. As of January 2015 John will become a full time producer, cinematographer, director, and Fine Art Photographer again and retain the rights to his social networking platform for the entertainment community, hoping to enable millions of artists to launch their own Private broadcasting and revenue producing syndicated Professional Quality Networks for the preservation and monetization of each studio's or independent artists media. Sort of a platform to preserve their own creative legacy while offering pay per view, pay per download, live broadcasting, sharing of photo libraries and monetizing the social traffic to those sites.
John's obsessive love for collaboratively creating with other artists and entertainers has allowed him the opportunity to work with and discover hundreds of successful models and actors entering the modeling and acting business. However, as his talent and drive have taken John to many different projects and opportunities (especially producing with his Executive Producer Peter Houmere, and second Camera and often John's DP/Lighting Director and friend; Scott Levy) John has also collaborated with, photographed, interviewed, directed and in a plethora of mediums worked with major celebrities including: Billy Joel, Neyo, Taylor Swift, PSY, Bette Midler, Alec Baldwin, F. Murray Abraham, Bon Jovi, Muhammad Ali, Modern English, Martin Short, Jill Nicolini, Melissa Baker, Willie Nelson, Ashley Massaro, Melissa Etheridge, Chris Angel, Woodie Harrelson, Deborah Gibson, Matt McCoy, Christa B.
