Biography

Sona Jobarteh is the first female Kora virtuoso from a prestigious West African Griot family, coming from a long line of hereditary musicians. She is the granddaughter of the Master Griot Amadu Bansang whilst her cousin is he well-known, celebrated Kora player Toumani Diabaté. As a multi-instrumentalist, singer, composer and producer Sona works alongside highly-respected musicians from around the world, having featured in collaborative works with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Britten Sinfonia, Milton Keynes City Orchestra and the Viva Chamber Orchestra. In 2010 Sona completed her debut film score "Motherland: The Score" for the multi-award winning film 'Motherland', in which she pioneers a new genre in African cinematic music. As a dynamic and skilled performer Sona brings her music to the worldwide stage following the recent release of her critically acclaimed new album "Fasiya".
