Carmen Vidal

Biography

Carmen Vidal is a Spanish writer, director and director of photography. Her documentary short film 6 a.m. received the Student Academy Award® (Oscar) 2006. Her short film Slate premiered at the MoMA (New York) as part of the New Directors/New Films festival. As a TV producer, Carmen is the recipient of six NY Emmy® Awards for her work at the cultural magazine Nueva York (CUNY TV), about Latinos in New York. The show also airs in TV stations in Mexico, Panama and Colombia. Carmen is the co-producer and director of the video content of the transmedia documentary project "Sonic Trace", produced by Anayansi Diaz-Cortes with support of ITVS, NEA, Cal Humanities, KCRW, AIR, and PBS. Mixing radio, new media, and video, this project tells the stories of Central American and Mexican immigrants in Los Angeles. Carmen has also worked for non-profit organizations in the U.S. and abroad. She has taught as adjunct professor at the film program at CCNY (City College of New York). Carmen has studied filmmaking in Barcelona, New York, and Prague. She graduated with an MFA in Media Arts Production from CCNY.
