Regional work includes seasons with Virginia Shakespeare and Cincinnati Shakespeare (when known as Fahrenheit Theatre Company). He co-founded the Cleveland Shakespeare Festival, where he directed the first professional production of Shakespeare's Edward III in the eastern U.S. D.E. has workshopped new plays as an actor with many film and theatre groups, including the Cleveland Play House, Myriad Arts, and the Mark Taper Forum. Several seasons of outdoor historical drama in the South culminated in the title role in Harrodsburg, Kentucky's The Legend of Daniel Boone, where he also served as Fight Captain and later played a lead role in the new outdoor drama Shadows in the Forest. International performances include cultural festivals in Budapest, Belgrade, Sibiu, and Varna. Behind the scenes, he has frequently worked as a lighting designer and electrician for bare-bones theatre endeavours (including an OOBR Award with Vital Theatre Company). In addition to his M.F.A. training, D.E. studied law at Indiana University-Bloomington and the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law in New York City, where he earned a J.D. with concentrations in Litigation, Corporate Law, Criminal Law & Procedure, and Public Law & Regulation, passing the New York Bar exam in 2012. He received his B.A. (Theatre and Political Science) from James Madison University in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. In high school in Virginia, he and his partner won the state debate championship, and he won the state American Legion Oratorical Contest with a speech on Presidential war powers. (Update, 2018:) Currently, D.E. is a Ph.D. candidate wandering around an Extremely Large Midwestern Land-Grant State University. Present academic research focuses on mimetic elements in legal precedent and public theatre in early modern England. He tends to travel light. He trusts that there is a fountain that was not made by the hands of men. He abides. The novels Input Masque and Wisdom House are available in bookstores and by the usual websites. Missing Places, a book of poetry and photography, is a bit harder to find.
