Daniel Katz was born in Baku, Azerbaijan and emigrated to the US at the age of four. A native bi-lingual of Russian and English, he grew up in San Francisco with exposure to Azerbaijani, Russian/Soviet, Jewish and American culture, all of which have influenced his creative mind.
Film-making began with photography at the early age of 16 and by the time Daniel was 17 he had already shot a 16mm self reflective short film which he screened at a film festival he started at school.
His formal education in filmmaking began with Columbia College Hollywood along with a position as Preview Technician for the Hollywood Motion Picture Film "S.W.A.T. (2003)" This further led him to a Bachelor of Arts in Film from the London College of Communication, University of the Arts London. During his course he worked as Director of Photography for a 16mm short in Portugal as well as Directed a documentary film about Japanese Artisan Craftsmanship which he screened at various design festivals around the world.
In November 2010, Daniel completed his Master of Arts in International Studies and Diplomacy from SOAS, University of London
In 2014 he directed a reality TV series in Azerbaijan (Ideya Qazandi), which was aired on AzTV (Channel 1) in prime time to millions of viewers.
Since then he has worked on music videos, commercials, and film projects as both a Director and DP. He resides in Los Angeles.
