Biography

Peyton Pinkerton is a musician most associated with playing guitar, keyboards and drums for various artists including Silver Jews (David Berman), Pernice Brothers (Joe Pernice) and his own seminal indie-rock band of 20 years, New Radiant Storm King. In addition to touring the world and recording for these projects he has worked as an arranger, recording engineer, producer and co-writer with many other artists. Peyton was born and raised in Pleasantville, New York. Both his parents were teachers. He attended several high schools ( 4 in 5 years) before attending Hampshire College in 1989 to study Philosophy. He eventually decided to focus on painting and music and although he was able to fake it for a spell, he was eventually forced out of the music program for his lack of ability to sight read sheet music. He also co-founded his band New Radiant Storm King (NRSK) during his freshman year. New Radiant Storm King went on to be an important band in the early 90's Alternative Music scene; with peers such as Pavement, Sebadoh, Polvo, Built To Spill and Guided By Voices. For the last twenty years Peyton has extensively toured the world; playing to crowds of 60,000 people on the European festival circuit as well as still playing to 16 people in small clubs in the U.S.. In recent days he has also been involved in soundtrack work. He lives in Northampton, Massachusetts with his wife Anne, 2 dogs and 4 cats. He is an avid supporter of spay/neuter awareness as well as an fervent advocate for adopting homeless animals.
