Cal Aurand, former VP and head of content at Sony Music / Epic Records and now founder of Upper Falls and The One Percent Coalition Entertainment Properties, has more than a decade worth of experience in music and entertainment visual production. Projects ranging from broadcast TV, live events, Internet campaigns, advertising, mixing animation with live action, and artist documentaries have been the core of his expertise.
Some projects in particular are:
. Shakira Oral Fixation Tour: In collaboration with Alejandro Sanz and Wyclef Jean. Shakira performed in Miami and Puerto Rico to create a live event recorded for DVD, Blu Ray and broadcast TV. The DVD has scanned Platinum in the US, Mexico and Argentina and 2x Platinum in Colombia and Spain.
. The Beyonce Experience: Filmed at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, CA featuring Jay Z and Destiny's Child was released exclusively to theaters across America for one day on November 19, 2007 prior to the broadcast debut on BET and DVD release on November 20th 2007. It is 3x Platinum in the US.
. Tony Bennett Duets An American Classic: Filmed in Los Angeles, New York, and London, it was a documentary about the creation of a record to celebrate Bennett's 80th birthday. Starring Tony Bennett with renowned producer Phil Ramone and musical artists Dixie Chicks, James Taylor, Paul McCartney, Elton John, Billy Joel, Stevie Wonder, Bono, Sting, George Michael, John Legend, Michael Buble, k.d. Lang, Diana Krall, Elvis Costello, Tim McGraw, and Juanes.
. Michael Jackson This Is It Music Video: On December 27, 2009, the song's official music video was released. The video was directed by academy award nominated director Spike Lee and features various scenes of Jackson's career, former residence in Gary, Indiana, and mixed with tributes from Jackson's fans around the world. Gil Kaufman, of MTV described the video as being "emotional" and "touching". Simon Vozick-Levinson of Entertainment Weekly described the video as being a "heart felt tribute".
. Ben Folds Live at MySpace: Featuring a live performance by singer-songwriter and pianist Ben Folds. This event was the social network MySpace's first ever-live web cast. It launched "Hey, Play This", an exclusive series of in-studio all-request concert web casts for free through the MySpace website.
Over his career, Cal has directed and developed over twenty music videos and music documentary pieces, executive produced more then one hundred music DVDs and live music broadcast/online shows and more than sixty MTV style short form videos with over two hundred million visual impressions. He has worked from the ground up in the music industry to leaving Sony Music as a VP and department head to pursue his own advertising, feature film and TV aspirations. Cal has also trademarked The One Percent Coalition, an early stages, not for profit organization, whose goal is to educate children on living an environmentally conscious life with fun, interactive 3D assembly learning programs for our nations schools.
