Roger Walch is an award winning Swiss filmmaker. Born in 1965 in St. Gallen (Switzerland). Piano training in the comprehensive department of the St. Gallen Jazz School. Master's degree from the University of Zurich in Japanese studies and social anthropology. Studied film with the directors Hans-Ulrich Schlumpf (Zurich) and Kanai Katsu (Image Forum Institute, Tokyo). From 1994 to 1996 director of the St. Gallen repertory cinema Kinok, then editor-in-chief of the Swiss literary magazine "Saiten". Relocated to Kyoto in 1998. Lecturer at the Kyoto City University of Arts and at Doshisha University and above all active in Japan as an artist and filmmaker. Participation in various film festivals and art exhibitions in Switzerland and Japan. In Spring 2004 Walch also published the photo book "Five Years in Kyoto" (Verlag Saiten, Switzerland. ISBN 3-9521302-3-0). Walch's work includes the short-film trilogy "YUWAKU" (seduction) and the award winning documentary-movie "Even a large River starts with a Drop of Water". In their aesthetic quality and surreal conception, Walch's short-films often remind of Japanese directors such as Seijun Suzuki or Shuji Terayama.
