Cole Gittinger

Biography

Cole was always interested in sound. He loved putting on the headphones; it was like he was in his own world, whether hearing an amplification of what others were hearing, or hearing something no one else could. He simply loved sound. There's a picture where Cole is sitting on a dune in White Sands National Monument, just recording the wind. Gittinger packed a lot into his 38 years. As a successful gallery owner, movie sound man and world traveler Gittinger lived his life fully and in all ways successfully - culminating with an Oscar nomination for group sound work on "No Country for Old Men." Originally from Toledo, Ohio, Gittinger moved to Taos in 2000, leaving behind an American Indian art gallery in Albuquerque. Once in Taos, he opened the All Points Gallery, which was successful for a time. Gittinger then began working in film. He had only been working in sound since 2002, which he did until his death. In his brief career in sound, he worked on films like "No Country for Old Men", "Off the Map", "In the Valley of Elah" and "North Country." At the time of his death he was working on "The Book of Eli", starring Denzel Washington.
