Francesco (Frank) DeFrenza was discovered by the Tri-City (Kennewick, Washington) Americans of the Western Hockey League and placed on their 50 man protected list.
He made his debut with the Americans in the 1990-91 season, playing in 48 games and picking up 9 points.
Early in his sophomore season, he, along with David Hebky and Jeff Fancy, he were traded to the Victoria (British Columbia) Cougars in a blockbuster trade at the time for Todd Harris and the rights to Paul Kariya (Kariya's Western Hockey League rights were owned by the Cougars, but Kariya said that he was going to college and play hockey for the University of Maine, but the Americans were hoping they could make him {Kariya} reconsider). In the 1992-93 season, he was traded to the Kamloops (British Columbia) Blazers and in his overage (20 year old) season, he returned back to where he got his start; The Americans.
After his Western Hockey League career came to an end, DeFrenza entered the professional hockey level and has seen action all across North America and Europe. He has skated for the South Carolina Stingrays of the East Coast Hockey League, the Ashville Smoke of the United Hockey League, the Reno Rage and the Phoenix Mustangs, both of the West Coast Hockey League, the Flint Generals of the United hockey League, the Oklahoma City Blazers of the Central Hockey League, as well as the Bracknell Bees in Great Britain, Trier EHC in Germany, Vipiteno, Apiano and Pontebba, all 3, of Italy.
