John Allan Cameron

Biography

John Allan Cameron was one of Canada's musical greats; his pioneering work with traditional Scottish Gaelic tunes played on a twelve-string guitar led him to be called the "Godfather of Gaelic music" in Canada. His popularity and fame grew to the extent that he was known worldwide, and his 1970 appearance at the Grand Ole Opry at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville was long remembered--he appeared in a kilt with two other musicians playing traditional tunes; instead of staying for the two minutes originally allotted, he captivated the crowd to the extent that he was on stage a full fifteen minutes.
