Originally from Wheaton, Illinois, the spirited funny-with-heart Sonal Shah was one of the first Indian-American females to appear in a major role on a network comedy (Scrubs). As a creator, she has a co-executive producer development deal with Disney Plus. Notable acting credits include Superstore (NBC), a series regular in The PTA (ABC Family), New Girl (FOX), Spaced Out (NBC), Better Things (FX), The High Note (Working Title), Definition Please, Mira Royal Detective (Disney), The Powerpuff Girls (Cartoon Network), Costume Quest (Amazon), 6 network pilot tests, and countless stage productions including Goodman Theatre.
A comedian and advocate for humanity, Sonal co-hosted the Asian American Institute for Congressional Studies Gala in DC attended by President Obama as well as events for Comcast, NBC Universal, South Asian Network, Aiden's Red Envelope Benefit, and the American India Foundation on Wall Street, where she helped raise 2.1 million dollars for education in India. Her work has been highlighted by multiple outlets, including The Hollywood Reporter, Deadline, and Anokhi Magazine where she was listed as one of the top 10 Fascinating South Asians of the year.
Sonal's been a guest speaker at Harvard University, the Alpha Gamma Sigma Scholastic Honor Society, The Chicago Foundation for Women, and the Indo-American Community Services Organization who praised her "Outstanding Dedication and Support for the Community.' Sonal is an ensemble member of the lauded IAMA Theatre Company. She teaches acting at the acclaimed John Rosenfeld Studios. This intelligent global small townie is a co-host of a monthly actors of color panel, a Second City Conservatory graduate, and an NBC Diversity Showcase alum. Sonal believes that representation matters and powerful stories, love, and laughter can transform people's lives.
